Rwanda

A single-entry visa costs USD 50 and a multiple entry visa USD100. If you are planning on visiting just Kenya, then a single-entry is all you need. If your plans include crossing over to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or visit the Serengeti, then you'll need a multiple-entry visa if you wish to re-enter Kenya again. An East African Visa is valid for East Africa i.e Kenya and Rwanda. It does not include Tanzania. The cost is USD 100 per person or USD 50 for a single country. Visitors are not allowed to take up work as residence in Kenya without the authority of the Principal Immigration Officer.


Safety

In general people are extremely friendly in East Africa and you will be humbled by their hospitality. Basic Safety Rules for Travelers:
• Make a copy of your passport and keep it in your luggage. • Don't walk on your own at night in the major cities or on empty beaches. • Don't expose jewelry. • Don't carry too much cash with you. • Wear a money belt that fits under your clothes. • Don't carry a lot of camera equipment especially in the major cities. • Don`t leave any valuables in hotel room when you go out, but use the safe deposit boxes which are available at most hotels and lodges (some rooms are equipped with a safe).


When to Go

There are two rainy seasons in Kenya. A short rainy season in November and a longer one that usually lasts from the end of March in to May. It doesn't necessarily get cold, but the roads can become impassable.
If you are on safari you can usually see more animals during the dry season as they congregate around the waterholes. If you wish to plan your trip around the annual migration of the wildebeest you should go between July - October.


Currency

The value of the Kenyan Shilling or Tanzanian Shilling or Rwanda Franc. Traveler's checks are probably the best and safest way to take money with you.

Getting Around

By Air
In Kenya you can use Kenya Airways that is the national carrier. Domestic flights are Fly540 , FlySAX and Jambo Jet.
Domestic Safari flights are offered by Air Kenya and Safari Link.
In Tanzania you can use Air Tanzania that is the national carrier. Domestic flights are Precision Air. Domestic Safari flights are offered by Coastal Air and Auric Air.
In Rwanda you can use Rwanda Air that is the national carrier.

Health and Immunizations

Kenya
No immunizations are required by law to enter Kenya if you are travelling directly from Europe or the US. If you are travelling from a country where Yellow Fever is present you will need to prove you have had the inoculation. Some countries which fall under this category include: Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Senegal, Zambia, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Cameroon, Gabon, Angola, Chad, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana, Rwanda and Burundi etc.
There's a risk of catching malaria pretty much everywhere you travel in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. The highlands used to be a low-risk area, but even there you have to be careful and take precautions. All visitors are recommended to take anti-malaria profile tics two weeks before arrival, throughout their stay and a minimum of three weeks after leaving Kenya.

Tanzania and Rwanda - Yellow fever vaccination is required. The certificate can be asked on arrival.
Piped water supplies are generally safe in municipal areas but local devise should be taken particularly on safari. Bottled mineral water, both local and imported can be purchased in hotel sundry shops and other tourist kiosks. You will find filtered and safe drinking water in thermos bottles in your hotel or lodge rooms, but it is advisable not to drink from the taps.

Duty Free

Visitors are restricted to duty free items of 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars and one liter bottle of spirits.


Photography

Visitors are advised that it is an offence to photograph the Head of State, Military installations, Policemen Uniforms etc. As a general rule elsewhere, visitors are strongly advised to seek permission before taking anyone’s photograph, especially the Samburu, Turkana and Masai people.
Using of drones are prohibited in National Parks without special permission. Travelers have to apply for permission in advance.


Airport Tax

The International Airport Departure tax ($40) and for local travel there is Airport Departure tax of Kenya Shillings 200/=. But usually it is already included in the ticket price.

Rates

In the unlikely event that a tour member has a complaint whilst on a tour, the complaint must be brought to the attention of the local representative or call the office which will be satisfactorily resolved.


Complaints

Rates include all expenses for best available accommodation and table d’hote meals, vehicle and driver for the intended itinerary, range guides where necessary, entrance fees for National Parks and Game reserves. All expenses of a personal nature such as visas, beverages, bar, laundry, phone calls, airport tax, tips etc are excluded. Single rooms attract a Single Room Supplement. All prices quoted are based on tariffs and exchange rates applicable at the time of printing and are subject to alteration without notice.


Payments

A deposit of 35% is required on booking of any travel arrangements. The balance is to be paid 45 days before commencement of the tour. A payment in full is required where bookings are made less than 15 days before the tour begins. The deposit may be forfeited in case of cancellations and amendments.
